Dr. Derryck Smith graduated from medical school at the University of Western Ontario and completed training in psychiatry at the University of British Columbia in 1985. He is a past president of the British Columbia Medical Association. Currently Dr. Smith focuses his practice on treating Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and brain injury in children and adults.
He has completed more than 5,000 psychiatric assessments for individuals with workplace disabilities and performs Independent Medical Examinations for the courts. He has particular expertise in the area of traumatic brain injuries in the workplace. He is routinely asked to chair claims review committees for injured workers who are appealing their disability insurance decisions.
Dr. Smith is a Clinical Professor Emeritus with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. He frequently gives lectures on ADHD, brain injury and related topics. He is a past president of the Medical Legal Society and was chair of the board for the Greater Vancouver Mental Health Services Society.
